1930’s Colonial Interior Renovation

This charming Colonial Revival home, built in 1939 and located in the Collier Hills neighborhood, has seen minimal modernization throughout its long history. While the new owners appreciate the historic allure of the house, the kitchen was in urgent need of renovation to better serve the needs of their growing family. Carriage House Studio redesigned both the kitchen and the existing sunroom to enhance functionality.

Although the size of the small galley kitchen was maintained, it was streamlined with additional efficient storage solutions, a larger casement window overlooking the backyard, improved lighting, and updated appliances. The design also pays homage to the previous kitchen, featuring wall tiles and matching trim.

Access to the backyard was enhanced by replacing a window in the living room with a new door that opens onto a newly created screened-in porch. The existing laundry room, which had previously been an infilled porch, was transformed into a sunroom equipped with large casement windows, new flooring, and built-in bookcases. This flexible space will serve as either a playroom or an office as the family's needs evolve over the coming years.
